it's beginning to look a lot like christmas...

It needs to be looking a lot like Christmas around here...because tonight we are having the family over for our Christmas turkey dinner.

It is actually a birthday dinner for Lisa (DIL)...but since Kris and Lisa will be away for Christmas, we're celebrating everything tonight!

We got our real tree on the weekend, so the decorating is done. If it hasn't happened yet...it won't happen this year. I always put up our everlasting (fake) tree a month ahead, in the library/balcony area.
We've been putting our live tree on the front porch as long as we've been here. I rather like it there...it takes up no room inside, but it is clearly visible from the great room or from outside. And here's the bonus...no needles inside the house! We just put lots of lights on it...no decorations.

I finished up some placecards last night. They are clear Christmas tree balls from Ikea...I removed the ends and filled them with gold tinsel and just tied the name tags on with ribbon.

The turkey and trimmings are all ready to go. I'll just share tonight's dessert with you; it's something quick and easy to have on hand over the holiday season.

Christmas ice-cream was on sale last week, so I stocked up! I made a bunch of ice-cream pies with Oreo wafer crust...so they are ready whenever I need them. For tonight I am serving a 'festive fruit' ice-cream pie as Lisa's birthday cake. So here's the scoop...

Make Oreo crumb base (as per directions on package) and press into the bottom of a spring form pan...or use a pizza pan.

Use 2-Litre carton of your favorite Christmas ice-cream... cut pieces to fit pan, and smooth top with a spatula.

Drizzle chocolate syrup over ice-cream pie and sprinkle with chopped peanuts. Refreeze...then cover with foil, and store in freezer until ready to use. That's all there is to it...other than a dollop of whipped cream as you serve it! Once the pie is removed from the spring form pan, it looks great served on a pedestal cake plate.

So, I better get cooking! Have yourself a wonderful day.

  1. Hi Judy, thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment! Yes, Untours is great. We have friends who've gone to Europe using Untours several times. We went to Paris in 2001.

Your Christmas preparations look wonderful - I like that ice cream recipe. I've never seen Christmas ice cream before - I'll have to keep an eye out here for that!

Your trees are lovely. I love the photo looking out the window to the real tree on the porch.
