Each day of our lives, we make deposits in the memory banks of our children.
~Charles Swindoll
Though many of my friends no longer have a father with whom to share any of life's experiences...
I still have a dad...
making regular deposits into my memory bank.
We won't be celebrating Father's Day together this year...since Dad happens to be traveling...and will be spending Father's Day with another daughter.
But...I will be thinking of him...and of all the wonderful memories he has given me through the years.
I'm smiling as I remember...
how he taught me to play ball...made my first bat...
laced up my skates...and carried me into the house when I had fallen asleep in the car.
I remember the bedtime stories of long ago...often scary but so good.
And how he came to my rescue when a 'black widow' spider was heading my way.
He was full of surprises...humour...and an endless resource of wisdom.
And he was always there when I was growing up.
I have been blessed with a dad who has given me many good memories.
I am so blessed that I can still spend time with my dad.
It's Father's Day this weekend...
and there are four other dads in my life that are most special to me.
There's the dad of my three children...
who has made regular deposits into their memory banks over the years.
And then there are the fathers of my grands.
Kris, Jeremy and Tim...
who are all in the same boat...
looking for wisdom as dads.
To all of you...
Happy Father's Day!
Everytime I think of you,
I thank God for you.

Such a sweet post! And I love the part about the young dads being "in the same boat!" My dad is 82 and not doing well, so I am grateful to still have him here for this Father's Day,too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a very special post complemented with your wonderful photographs.
ReplyDeleteMy friend once told me that going to heaven would be like falling asleep in the car and waking in my own bed thanks to the Heavenly Father's carrying me there. I love that image.
I miss my Dad so much...sadly he was taken away from us much too soon.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and son have been the most wonderful fathers...it is such a blessing to see the love between father and child and grandchild.
Happy Fathers day to your men folk!
ReplyDeleteThis post was very inspirational because I am just building a bond with my father after all these years. My mother was my big supporter for all my life, but now she's in heaven and I have come to realize that now is the time for me to embrace what I do have, not looking back at the negative but embrace the positive things as well. So I am making memories with my dad because I didn't grow up with a dad in the household. God Bless you for such beautiful inspirational words defining "a dad".... because some of us have not experienced the love of a father.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely, lovely tribute. So you answered my question and you do celebrate Father's Day this weekend, too.
ReplyDeleteI sent off my card to my Pop, thanking God for him!
Have a nice weekend...
Dads are wonderful, and your tribute to the fathers in your life is heartfelt.
ReplyDeletehappy fathers day to your dad. I am glad you can still see him. My father died when I was college

ReplyDeleteThe value of a committed Father can never be taken from us. He left a legacy and it's so honorable to see your husband leave the same legacy with his men folk in his life.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend.
Perfect :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a thoughtful quote...very inspirational, and can be applied to all aspects of life...
ReplyDeleteI love your turn of phrase, Judy - 'deposits in the memory bank' is a phrase I'll hang onto. You are, indeed, blessed with all those gentle fathers in your life.
