We took a little break...
and headed for the city of Vancouver.
We were there many times during the Winter Olympics of 2010...
and had hardly returned since.
We went armed with umbrellas and rain gear...
but never needed them yesterday.
It was a lovely day for a walk-about!
This particular spot was the focus of many news reports over the past few months...
the home of the 'Occupy Vancouver' movement.
It looks quite bleak in the aftermath.
Where green lawns once flourished...
there are now fields of mulch.
At Canada Place...
the workers were busy dismantling the Christmas lights.
Lunch at an Italian place on the waterfront...
was the perfect spot for view of the famous sails.
We stopped by 'Eye-kee-ya' while we were there...
but discovered that the item we were after did not fit in our car.
It looks like we may have to return to the city again...
with a truck next time!
It's a great city to visit from time to time.
And I'm always thankful to be living in the country on my return home!
Have a great weekend.
Wow. Vancouver looks like a lovely city. The sails were cool! We also have learned to take a truck when we go to IKEA. That or a bunch of ropes to tie stuff on top! haha
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great trip!
ReplyDeleteGlad you "got away" and had a dry day to enjoy the city! Ha! Those bulky items in need of a truck can be tricky. We are headed out in the truck to Cause-Ko to pick up some mattresses. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteNow you guys are smart to measure. We buy and then discover it won't fit. Don't worry. We make it fit. Ha!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos of the city and the sails. I'm glad that the folks who were occupying went home. We still have a disgusting mess here. And I do mean revolting. After a certain length of time, my patience with such things diminishes to zip.
Hope to someday learn what it is that you'll be hauling back home in a truck from Eye Key Ah.
Now that I don't live in Vancouver I also love going back. Sometimes we don't go for a long time and then suddently, like this week, we were there twice... we did the Stanley Park train one day and a hockey game another day.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what's waiting for you at IKEA?
Sounds like a perfect little get away. I always love my day trips and can't wait to see the city on my bike once again.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a nice day for your trip to Vancouver. It poured rain here with just a few, very short sunny intervals.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what wouldn't fit in your car?
Why tonight? Shouldn't they be on for Epiphany, if you've come this far? I have read so many different things, but I believe that Christmas is the first day of Christmas and so that's one, which makes the 12th day the 5th. I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. =)
ReplyDeleteI just Googled and this was the messsage: Twelve Days of Christmas began Sunday, December 25, 2011, and ended Thursday, January 5, 2012.
The big city looks rather bleak on a rainy January day. I still like going though. :)
ReplyDeleteWe walked past the occupy site just after they finished doing their occupying. It just annoyed me.
Glad you found your way back home!
Lovely pictures. Glad you had a weather freindly day! Like the way you spelled Ikea!
ReplyDeleteIt's always great to visit the big city, but better to turn and head home. When we go to the big city we always visit the big blue and yellow Swedish store!
ReplyDeleteAlthough a few years have passed since I lived near City Hall, I immediately wondered what had happened to the lawns...until I scrolled a little further. Perhaps the "occupy-ers" left contributions for the re-seeding??? Hmmm...people don't look too closely at "the other side of the coin".
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lovely "post holiday" escape! Love the photos!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a very nice day trip. Your IKEA find has me intrigued.
ReplyDeleteThose little getaways are always so nice! Glad you had some dry weather....and pretty evening skies.
ReplyDeleteOh! what a lovely place. I live here in the UK and my teaching colleague and her family have just moved to Vancouver. She just wanted to go home and bring up her family that beautiful city.
ReplyDeleteHappy Week.
Glad you had such a nice day trip to Vancouver. I enjoyed the two years I taught there because I lived in the West End and just had a short distance to drive to my school but a small community feels more like home now.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Judy!
ReplyDeleteHope your Christmas was wonderful for you and those you love.
I have some serious blog catching up to do!
Hugs!
Harv and I also enjoyed a day in Vancouver just before New Years. Its always fun to "bumber" around the city. We found a lovely corner cabinet in an antique store on Main St. Like yours, our trip also included the stop at IKEA.
ReplyDeleteGreat mennonite phonetics for a Swedish store, Ya?
