the joshua tree...

Last week we visited Joshua Tree National Park...and had a close-up look at the slow growing joshua trees that seem to thrive there in the desert. The tree was originally named after Joshua of old....it reminded early settlers of Joshua, standing with his arms outstretched in prayer.

As we left the park, we passed a tour bus that had Joshua 1:9 printed on the side...

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."

How fitting...a reminder that God is greater than whatever challenges we may be may facing.

  1. Thanks Judy, we need the reminders of those wonderful promises for the unexpected 'blind corners' in our journey.

  7. When I was 10 my family lived for about a year in 29 Palms, and my dad would take the 7 of us out for drives on the weekend, to Joshua Tree National Park....we'd go hiking up into the huge bolders. Some fun memories from the past. I also remember how the nighttime desert air smelled like hot buttered toast to me. And the glorious sunrises.

The desert does have an appeal all its own.
