My latest kitchen fiasco was almost funny...I said almost! It was rather like a scene from the movie I was about to watch later in the day. But I too can move on...and learn from my mistakes.
Early that particular morning I tried out a new recipe...which happened to look quite nice in the picture...and sounded like it would hit the spot.

Many hours later a tray of lovely looking white chocolate cappuccino mousse parfaits sat in refrigeration...still waiting to set up.
Here's what I learned...
- Never try a recipe for the first time...when you are planning to serve the dish to your guests that evening.
- When your invited guests are all accomplished cooks...and collaborators in an on-line recipe blog...stick to dishes that are tried and true.
- At the last minute...switch to 'Plan B' and quickly whip up a batch of sweet rolls which have been tested in most of our kitchens...just to have something to serve with coffee.
- Never let the flop go to waste!
Throw in a straw or two...call it 'white chocolate cappuccino frappuccino'...and serve it to hubby. He has a whole week's worth of dessert drinks in stock.
I also learned that I only like cooking when things turn out! Actually...I already knew that.
Smile...it's Friday.

I'm sure hubby loved 'plan B'. This is something to which we can all relate - I always just say that it's because I'm still a new bride!

It appears to have been a welcome "flop"...unlike the kind that fills ones house with smoke! Have a wonderful weekend! Are you sure you won't be sneaking some of those cafelatte drinks when you're all alone in the house?

ReplyDeleteJudy, I would have served it "as is" and pretended it was supposed to look like that...lol! It does sound and look delicious, even though it didn't thicken into mousse as you hoped. I wonder how it would taste frozen?
ReplyDeleteI remember the actual episode when Julia Child dropped the omelet she was flipping on the floor..she just cheerfully scooped it up and placed it back in her skillet and laughingly said "don't worry, no one will know the difference," and went right on cooking. She was wonderful!

LOL! We were just talking about that last night as I tried a new recipe (which didn't turn out to bad just needs some tweeking). Good for you that you had a Plan B!

Oh can we not all relate to that. At least you had something else yummy in your back up plan. I wouldn't have minding sipping on that cappucino. .I'd have been happy as a clam.
ReplyDeleteSo funny....maybe I should have taken you up one one of those...but the cholate mouse you gave to me was wonderful...and the maple twist looked yummy...but no nuts for this girl. I'm sure you have no complaints from hubby. Kathy
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine having the group of great cooks over to my home. I do think it would create a bit more stress on my part. I smiled at the part that you only like to cook when the food turns out. I agree, although I must admit I was surprised that you had something that did not turn out as planned knowing what a wonderful cook you are. I am sure your husband was thrilled.

I guess you could have served it up as if it was meant to be that way. A liquid dessert would have been a nice treat and no one would have been the wiser.
