sweet...

For many years now...I have had a Valentine's tea with these two.

It was at one time just the three of us...with fine china on a little table. A few years ago, we invited Ranen to join us...and Ryder was so sad about being excluded that we decided one handsome young man at a tea party would be just fine. Last year Miss Maelyn came as well...and all the mommies...and we thought we had a new tradition going.

But this year Valentine's Day fell on Sunday...and what would all the big boys do if the girls were all at a tea party? And so it was decided to scrap the tea party...and have a brunch...and include one and all! We had waffles...with many toppings...and bbq'd sausages...and the Olympic games carried on while we ate.

The girls were a little concerned that the finger jello hearts might not be on agenda...with the tea party having taken on a new twist. But once brunch was cleared away...

...out came they pans of jello...and they made hearts to their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥'s content! There seemed to be a lot of snacking happening as well. Princess Ranen was quite enthusiastic and abandoned her chair in order to get in a little closer.

Micah was quite happy about the whole thing and watched everything from the sidelines.

Maelyn wanted no part of the jello thing! She would have much preferred to return to the barn...where she'd been the previous day.

That was Valentine's Day 2010. Oh...and I am enjoying a vase of beautiful pink roses! Sweet.

  1. That smile! Micah is gorgeous!
I remember last year's Valentine's tea. As your family grows it's nice that beloved traditions can expand yet still retain the really important elements - like the jello hearts.

  4. Perfection...can't believe how much Micah has grown. He was such a neat surprise for me that now when I see him, I'm all grins. Lovely new plans and, like all good plans, they've evolved and will probably do so again. Enjoy those roses and keep enjoying the Olympics. I'm going back now to see who it was you told us to keep an eye on.

  5. Found it! And I was surprised because this was the Russian pair where the Japanese gal became a Russian to work with the Russian trainer. It was so sad to see her face last night after her performance. My grandmother said that she looked out of it and I thought that she looked as if she were in shock. I hope that she is able to put it all in perspective this morning, but how terribly disappointing for her.

  8. Your grands are just so sweet! Your little prince and mine would be a hoot together....and your princess...well, my one little princess would be right there with her. The two little ones are growing so fast, and the twins are beautiful! Again you did it up right for your family...and glad you have a bouquet to enjoy this week. Kathy (MGCC)

  9. I am taking notes from you since your grandchildren are a few steps ahead of mine. Tea parties are a great idea. Jello hearts are in the same category. You have adorable grandchildren as I am sure you know. Each picture is so cute! A brunch for everyone was the best idea, especially with the Olympics taking place.

    Pink roses...lucky you!

  10. Tea parties for one and all! Have you seen the commercial with the two guys wanting some pop corn that a little girl has at her tea party? The teenage brother sitting in a tiny chair sipping tea with a huge brimmed hat is adorable.

Perhaps next Valentine's day you could introduce hats and gloves for the attending ladies?

  11. Your grandchildren look so happy to be with you. You've created wonderful memories and traditions for them - and it's great to adapt traditions rather than be locked in to "this is the way we've always done it."

  13. Those jello hearts look like a wonderful sweet treats! As the girls grow they are making heart masterpieces! I'm sure Maelyn will join in on the fun in another year or so and Micah will be helping Ryder handle eating all the scraps..lol

This was a weekend of many happenings at my house. My husband was also home on Monday as it was President's Day holiday and we went for some long enjoyable walks as we've felt snow bound lately, and my foot is finely back to normal. :-)

  14. Isn't it cute how each grandchild is so different....one wants jello and the other wants the farm...
It looks like you had a perfect party fit for all.
