a fine september evening...

What are the chances of having patio weather on September 14th?  Yesterday was just a gorgeous summer day...

...and we moved the party outdoors.  The kids ran barefoot...oblivious to the fact that barefoot weather is about to end.

As you can tell...this was formal dining all the way!

My dad celebrated his 88th birthday yesterday...with a little help from all of us.  We sang happy birthday...and he had his pie and ate it too!  Dad is all about apple pie and ice-cream...and so his birthday 'cake' was a pie made with apples from the farm.  The apples came from a tree he planted some fifty years ago...a wonderful fall cooking apple.

Dad is doing great these days...he had a good year.  Just over a year ago he was a very sick man...but we are so thankful he recovered fully.  Though we know not what the future may hold for any of us...we wish him continued health and happiness in the journey ahead.

A few gifts to open as the sun went down...and soon everyone was talking about heading for home.  It gets dark so early these days...and some have school in the morning.  Gathering the clan on a beautiful September evening...to celebrate Dad was a great idea!

Have a wonderful Wednesday....

  1. Aha! Here it is!

Your dad is a very handsome 88-years-old. I remember when he was so very ill and in the hospital for quite some time. Thank God for His goodness in answering prayer.

Lovely evening for you all. Your dad and I share something...the preference for birthday pie instead of birthday cake.

    Happy birthday to your dad!

(Wow! Those grands get the royal treatment...a carpet upon the lawn? Lovely!)
