it's no joke....

It's April Fool's day! Where that originated and what it stands for, I have no idea...it's just a day of good-natured fun. Let me introduce you to my brother-in-law Jim, who is the king of April Fool's jokes.

This picture is from the archives (circa 1981)...notice the gleam in his eye! Uncle Jim was always up to some kind of trick...and he never forgot to 'pull a good one' on my children every year come April 1st. They often fell for his shenanigans...since April 1st wasn't always on their radar.

We've missed out on his practical jokes these past few years...since he's been in Manitoba.

But as you can see, he's still up to his tricks.

Not too long ago, he found himself at the wrong end of the barrel. He was simply having lunch at Big Nose Kate's in Tombstone, Arizona...minding his own business...when the sheriff came looking for him. Jim seemed none too concerned...thought it was an April Fool's joke. It's always fun vacationing with Jim...never a dull moment!

This year the joke is on him...and I'm ever so happy to share it with all the rest of you. Today Jim is 50 years old! There was a reason he always remembered to celebrate April Fool's Day...it's hard to forget one's birthday. We have the perfect gift for Jim to honour this momentous occasion...

Since it's all downhill from here, he may just need a reminder to 'slow down'! We found this sign lying beside the road some time back...and thought we'd keep it for Jim. Too bad we can't be there for the big birthday celebration...but we send our best wishes!

I can understand why Jim has a birthday on April Fool's Day...he had little choice in the matter. But when weddings are planned...one is free to choose any date on the calendar. Despite that, there are people who actually choose to get married on April 1st.

Happy Anniversary to Dave and Janet who are celebrating their 36th year today. We've been friends forever...and have been through thick and thin with them. We have gone on a mission trip together, been business partners, travelled to many warm places together, been there for each other through family crises...we were in a serious car accident together, we have watched each other's children grow up and get married...and after all that, we are still friends.

I have no idea what the pig is all about...but I see Dave's been shopping at one of my favorite places! Happy anniversary to you guys...and we wish you many more.

And happy 'fool's day' to all of you...
