her special day...

She would have been 83 today...were she still celebrating birthdays with us. Today is February 9th...my mom's birthday. It's been many years since we've had a birthday party for mom...but the date will always remain hers.

We were looking at old photos last week...my daughter and I. She thought this one of my mom holding me was most precious...and I do too! She so wished grandma was here to meet her little Maelyn. How she would have enjoyed her...and all the other great-grandchildren that she never had a chance to meet. What a grand reunion we can all look forward to!

My mom...with the open door and open heart...with work worn hands and the most beautiful handwriting...with a ready smile and endless energy...with a thick head of hair and the bluest of eyes...you will always be missed.

We never had much time for good-byes...but one day we will be together again...and eternity is a long, long time!

Until tomorrow...

  1. Judy. . .our mom's were twins. . imagine that. Your mom was a little younger and hasn't been gone quite as long.
I think the picture of the two of you is so very precious. How can we not remember this date? It is etched within our memories. . no calendar is needed.
I smiled as I read the last paragraph. My mom did not have particularly nice hand writing. Her eyes were blue. She lacked endless energy, due to her bad heart, and she had horrible thin hair. . .but she also had an open door and open heart and work worn hands. ..
    Until tomorrow Judy.

  2. That is a lovely post. My husband's Mom's birthday was yesterday. I said goodnight to her in heaven as I drifted off to sleep.

  3. You and Lovella share such an important date! How cool is that!

That photo of you resting in your mother's arms with her sweet, proud smile beaming down on you...well, it's beyond beautiful.

I imagine your moms together having a little chat about their girls blogging up a storm. Perhaps they sit together over tea and birthday cake! Whatever they are up to on this day, it is more wonderful than we can even imagine.

  4. Judy, that was beautiful - photo and words. It would have been wondeful for your mother to have enjoyed your grandchildren, but she's enjoying them from her place in heaven - and watching out for them too!
My mother is still with us, also born in 1926. You could have been describing her, except that my mum has gorgeous brown eyes and snow white hair now. The hands, the energy, smile and beautiful handwriting - is it the generation?
Thank you for sharing your memories with us.

  5. Well that's so interesting....I poured over pictures of my mother last night. They had such big hearts. They worked so hard and my mom kept the family together with her on-going sensitivity to each one of us.
Our mothers have left us such a legacy....

  7. Your post made me sad. I do think it is important to keep our loved ones memories alive, and that was a very sweet memory to share with us. Thank goodness for a coming reunion, that we can eagerly look forward to. I love that picture of the two of you.

  8. I just read Lovella's tribute to her Mom and now I see yours! What a special day you have in common! I still have my Mom and I don't want to imagine what it would be like not to have her. I see that somehow God has placed on you the responsibility to pass on the love and the memories and you and Lovella both do that in a beautiful way!

  10. What a beautiful way to remember your mom and share it with us. Of course, it made many of us think of our own mothers with tears in our eyes too. But tears are ok, they bring up happy thoughts. Dairymary

  12. What a beautiful tribute to your lovely mother. My dear Aunt Sis passed away recently and we were able to celebrate, because we knew she was going to be reunited with her husband and little boy (he'd died in a fire). That was when I really started to understand the depth of my faith and what true faith really was. Thank you for the reminder to cherish every single day...they go by so fast!

  13. I'm so sorry your Mom is not here with you today to celebrate her birthday, Judy. She sounds like such a wonderful mom. I'm sure she is with the Lord and you will all be together again someday.

My Mom is still here but I sadly see her becoming frail. I cherish the time I still have with her.

  14. Good morning Judy! Thank you for visiting my blog. In answer to your question, the market is a hour and half drive, from our home. They drive that distance every Thurday, Friday and Saturday, but they do it with friends and family, and really seem to enjoy it.

  16. Judy, this is just such a lovely tribute to your mother. I can tell she was very much loved.

My mother lives with us, and she turned eighty on her last birthday. She also has beautiful blue eyes and lovely handwriting.

It seems we were each blessed with wonderful mothers. I am so glad that we all have the promise of eternal life. We will be happy to see my father once again.

  18. Oh Judy....I am so sad I missed the day you posted this. I can so feel your love in your words and the photo you posted is most precious indeed. I've already passed through one of Mom's birthday's since she passed away but I was still numb from her recent death. Next year will be harder but I intend to keep it remembered just as you do. Blessings.
