beating the heat...

The temperatures are rising...and the weather records in our area are falling...and we are just trying to survive with fans...and ice-cream (make mine an orange float)!

It's too hot to think...too hot to cook...too hot to write...and so I'll just share a few excuses for today's non-post.

At 8:27 pm last night...it was still above 35 degrees Celsius...and 44C on the humidex scale. For those who are not metric-minded...I'll do the math for you...it's about 100 degrees Fahrenheit and 112 with the humidity factored in. And a goodly number of us out here do not have central air...because it is not needed that often. We are re-thinking that position...and may just have a cool house by next year's heat wave!

For now...the fans are going non-stop...and we are considering sleeping in the crawl space. Escaping in the RV is looking more and more appealing...as it becomes cool on command. I may be back with something of a little more substance tomorrow...but for today...I'm just concentrating on beating the heat.

Stay cool...

  2. Just lie low on days like this. Your orange float looks so appealing...we've had a few rootbeer floats this summer, but now I'm thinking of branching out.

  3. We're laughing at the idea of sleeping in the RV . . why didn't we think of that. . too funny.

  4. We have been actually having lower than normal temperatures this summer though it is hot and sticky here today but nothing like by you.
I am so surprised that it so hot by you. I didn't even realize it got that hot in Canada!

  5. It's hot, hot, hot over here too - and we are definitly not used to anything in the 30 degree range. It makes going to an air-conditioned office not such a bad alternative to melting at home!
Time to close the windows and drapes now, to trap some of the cool night air.
    Think snow!

  6. Oh that is hot!! And I'm finding 28 hot. We have an air-conditioner in our bedroom because I have a genetic heart condition. I couldn't do without it at night - it's more the humidity that makes it hard to breathe rather than the hot temperatures. I notice everyone in the family enjoys the cool air - heart problem or not :)

That orange float looks very appealing!

  7. I hope your cold front gets to you soon! I just hope that those temps don't travel to us...at 90 it's hot enough! This was the coolest July in ages!!!

  8. Judy, I'm with you! We sleep on the second floor under a pitched roof that gets very hot. Last night we had two fans going around our bed. The bvasement is cooler- we may have to opt for that if this keeps up.

  9. I don't have central air conditioning in my home either, Judy. Thankfully I have window air conditioner in my bedroom so I can sleep when it is very hot, and another in my living room in case I have company, as it somewhat also cools my dining room, but that's it. My small kitchen is usually beastly hot this time of the year and there isn't a suitable window in it for an air conditioner. My outdoor grill gets a lot of use but not on rainy days, of course.
Maybe we are just intended to slow down and rest in summer? That sounds good to me!

  10. If only we could help each other out..here it's only supposed to be 20 today..very unusual for us.
Thanks for the reminder of orange floats..those were always my favorite and I haven't had one in a long time!

  11. You have my deepest sympathy for suffering through with no air conditioning!! Escaping to the RV sounds like it might be a good idea.

  14. This summer is unbelievable. It has rained nearly every day in the heartland. Never reached 90 so far in July. We might had a -------hot summer. Who knows.

  15. Yup, sure is hot...and that float looks might good! I actually seem to be finding excuses to be driving around in my car...at least for today. Great idea to sleep in the RV and feel like you are on vacation...enjoy!

  16. The heat sure does knock the wind out of one's sails, doesn't it? Somehow escaping in the RV sure sounds inviting. Just be sure to take along some of those orange floats. We are experiencing the heat too, right now.

  17. I am so sorry it's so hot there. It has been lower temperatures than usual down here. I am still looking forward to winter. Cool weather with a fire going and sipping a hot drink is up my alley.

  18. It is unusually hot here too...107 degrees today! Whew!

    Stay Cool & Cozy, Carrie

  19. You have my sympathy girl. My kids are in 103 in Seattle and 106 in Portland with no AC. We live in a hot dry climate that gets triple digits every summer so AC is a must here. We keep a low profile too in this kind of heat.

My poor plants are going crispy too:(

  20. I feel for you! I'm in Iowa and we have had one of the coolest summers I can ever remember. I wish I could share but I really don't want hot weather. I LOVE fall. I hope you are able to beat the heat. That orange icecream float looks yummy!
