what is an indoor picnic?

An indoor picnic is what happens on Father's Day...when it is still raining and cold as we are about to leave for the planned picnic at the lake.  Plan B suddenly looked much more appealing to all...including the kids.

The picnic happened around our dining room table...

...with a fire nearby to keep us warm.  None of us longed to be at the lake...not this time.

As for the kids...they ate and ran.  I snuck upstairs to see what the youngest ones were doing...

...and they were managing just fine on their own.

Emme and Spencer seem to prefer hanging around the 'picnic table'...and listening in on adult conversations.  How did that happen so quickly?

But they are always more than willing to read a book to their wee cousin.

And when the first picnic was over...we headed out the door to my sister's for a planned BBQ with my dad.  Once again we went with Plan B...and had our meal indoors.

Father's Day 2011...a good day for indoor picnics.  Indoors or out...it's always good to spend time with dad.

Have a great day...

  1. Funny how both the Atlantic side and the Pacific side on our respective latitudes had less than perfect weather for some of the weekend. (Father's Day was lovely here, though.) Your indoor picnic with the fire going seems like perfection on such a day. What a wonderful reading nook beside the fireplace with pleasant scenes beyond the window.

  3. It's always good to have a Plan B!
Over here we had blue skies and bright sunlight - there's not accounting for the weather!

  4. Your beautiful grands added the sunshine needed for an indoor picnic! I did note the crutches resting against the wall; how is the healing process coming along?

  7. Yup Plan B works just fine sometimes. It's ok to go with the flow and have an indoor picnic! We were all rained out yesterday and today still, but we do know the SON is always shining!!

  8. The nicest thing was the family being together.
Our family time involved phone calls and text messages this year with everyone scattered across 3 provinces and one state.
I'm so glad you had good celebration times despite the weather.

  10. You are so fortunate to be able to have your entire family around you for Father's Day, Judy! Our holiday was very quiet..sigh..and we missed our children, but know that they have to follow their dreams as so many did before us (or else we all wouldn't be here!)

I think one day we will be the ones following behind them to live in the west, but for now NYC is our home and I hope to make the best of it, as always. :)

Love watching those little ones grow.
    No place like home.

I like the indoor picnic pictures and the attitude with which you undertook the whole thing.
