the earth laughs in flowers...

I have so been enjoying all the pink and white tulips I've had in the house these past few days.

What with our very cool spring, I haven't seen many tulips blooming in the great outdoors as yet, but the 25th annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is currently happening about ninety minutes south of here.

We have been down to see the fields of tulips on several occasions, and would recommend it to anyone who lives nearby. My pic's are from yesteryear...but I'll post them in anticipation of the 2008 fields of colour.

Daffodils can brighten up any dull day!

There are several show gardens in the area, where one can stroll about and actually learn something about the amazing tulips. We did just that...learned a lot...and I've forgotten it all by now!

The Skagit Valley area has been famous for growing tulip bulbs for over one-hundred years...the beautiful fields of blooms are just a side-benefit. Since these are not display gardens but working farms, the workers are busy in the fields throughout the blooming season.

There is nothing like a field awash in colour to brighten a dreary day! It gives new meaning to the quote...

Earth laughs in flowers. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Have a wonderful day...

  1. I'd faint to see such color in person. We have nothing like that here...fields and fields of undulating color...nope. Thank you for sharing your photos of yesteryear. Hope that you get to see it again this year. It sure has been a crazy weather spring!

  2. Thanks for the pictures of the gorgeous fields of tulips. After our late Spring -- it gives us hope that warmer weather is soon around the corner. Also loved the bouquet of soft pink and white tulips. Martha

  5. When I came into work on Tuesday morning a colleague had placed a vase of pink tulips on the corner of my desk. How it brightened my day and week actually. The fact that it remains on the corner of my desk amid a stack of HUGE construction drawings is a feat on its own. Still, I have been loathe to remove them to a less conspicuous spot as they seem to cheer all who enter.

Thanks for sharing the wonderful photos....so beautiful on these dismal days we have locally n'est pa?

  9. Oh Judy, I am so sorry to hear of Hannah's passing. My heart is so heavy for you and your family.
You and Hannah's parents have been in my thoughts and prayers as I knew the time was near.
I have been unable to keep up with my blog readings, as my husband's Dad is in a Hospice care home and will be going on to be with Jesus very soon.
Know that many care and feel your loss Judy.
