think on these things...

'Whatsoever things are lovely...'

The blooms of spring...
now those are lovely!

The latest addition to my peony collection has only two blooms.
I plan to enjoy them...
one at a time...
indoors.

The Nellie Moser clematis is putting on a show just outside the kitchen window.

My mom-in-law loved clematis...
and her name was Nellie...
so this one blooms for her!

Broni snipped a bouquet of lilacs from her garden for me a few days ago.
The fragrance is heaven scent!

I ordered a five-pack of lilac seedlings from Stokes Seeds in 1996.
The picture in the catalog showed lovely blooms like those above.
The package that arrived in the mail had five microscopic little twigs.
I was rather disappointed in the size...
and had a lilac nursery for a few years.
Eventually the little seedlings were big enough to plant out...
and today (some 15 years later) they bloom prolifically at the farm.
Thanks for the bouquet, Broni!

 In other 'lovely' news...
the Vancouver Canucks pulled off a win last night...
at the very last moment.

They are now only three wins away from their first ever Stanley Cup title.
It's all good!

  1. Hmmm, that's a matter of perspective. ;> I was rooting for the Canucks until... Well, you know. These regionaly loyalties...

Beautiful posies...I don't have your exact varieties, though I do have peonies, clematis, and lilacs. So I can appreciate your joy in their loveliness.

    Have a great day, Judy!

  3. Go Vancouver!!! Here at That Country Place in AB, the lilacs are just about to bloom. I have a bush under my kitchen window, it was a started from one of my grandpas lilacs that bloomed in his yard in Kelowna. It took forever to get any blossoms, but now when it does I think of him :) Things are late here and we have such a short summer to enjoy things on the prairies,,,,but oh well, I will take the days that we get!! Have a great day!

  4. OH Judy. . .love your beautiful flowers. You must have your peony against a warm wall? My buds are still quite tight. We just added a climbing trellis for our clematis so it has something to grab.
    Awesome win.

  5. I love peonies and clematis. Sometimes I wish we lived in a cold climate so I could grow these types of flowers.
Your garden is so beautiful and to be able to have fresh flowers in the house is a bonus.
It's truly amazing how many varieties of flowers God made for our enjoyment.
I really miss Amy (of course I miss Amy but I really miss having flowers in the house)She would often bring home flowers from work.

  6. I saw the game -- very exciting! We also had exciting weather "watches" but luckily for us it only cooled off and no tornadoes spouted in NY.

I love lilacs and I'm sure it was worth the wait to see the ones you bought long ago flourishing so well. The peonies and clematis are also beautiful!

  8. Flowers are lovely things to think upon.

Yay for the Canucks! We tend not to watch the games, but check in at the end for the score.

  10. Your blooms are lovely. How do you get lilacs to stay facing up once cut? Mine tend to droop as soon as they are in a vase.

  11. I checked on line before going to work this morning to see who won.I guess since I am an American, I should be pulling for the Bruins, but since I'm not a hockey fan and it seems so important to all of my Canadian friends, I'm glad the Canucks won! Your flowers are beautiful. I am trying to keep mine alive in this drought we are having...have to water two times a day!

  12. The flowers are just stunning! I'll bet your home smells divine!

Now, about that Stanley Cup, I think it's coming to Boston, my home town! LOL!!! How unfortunate were we to loose with 6 seconds left to play . . . Have a wonderful weekend!

  13. Now I could swear I caught a whiff of lilac while I was reading this love ode to your garden. Will Blogger ever have a smell option?

I love that you are drawn to having plants that share the name if your family members. My mom June and mother in law Barbara both are represented in our garden with so named hostas.

  14. What a treat to see your beautiful flowers, especially the peony. I had white ones in a garden in France some years ago, and they were perfumed too, which was a surprise.

  16. Your Nellie Moser is gorgeous - mine is just starting to bloom - only one or two flowers are open yet. And I noticed the white bleeding heart with your peony. I've been wanting one since the first time I saw it on your blog. I must go find one as well as a peony with that delicate pink.
I also love lilacs but unfortunately my husband's allergies don't! So now we admire them in other people's yards.
