a postcard in parting...

Today we bid farewell to Palm Springs...and as we leave the area we will once again be passing by this huge forest of wind turbines just west of the city.

They are situated in a pass that happens to be one of the windiest places on earth.  Why not harness that power...from a sustainable renewable energy resource?  California produces over 80% of the world's wind generated electricity.

As we pass by...I see row upon row of huge wind turbines...in every direction.  Though there are no poppies blowing in the wind below...a familiar poem comes to mind.  One by John McCrae which I always recite on this day.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead.  Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.

  7. That drive must be an amazing sight to behold, and how appropriate to quote that beloved poem during it. I found it interesting to learn that CA provides so high a percentage of the energy.

Hope you can adjust to life on the homefront. I sure did enjoy this trip.
