passing the turkey...passing the puck...

Though there are plenty of choices...
it's the turkey platter that goes around first...
always.

We have a tradition at our place...
to have our turkey dinner and celebrate Lisa's birthday at the same time...
about a week before Christmas.

Jeremy was wondering...
why does Lisa always get a turkey dinner for her birthday...
while he gets a wiener roast most every year?
There are a few benefits to having a birthday right near Christmas!

Let's just say it was a special birthday for her this year!

Though it may look like all was calm and peaceful...
there weren't too many of those quiet moments on Sunday night!

They have a lot of energy...

...and so we encouraged them all to go down to the basement and play a little floor hockey.
It was a good time for all...
big and small.
It is just important for those over six feet tall to keep their heads bowed as they play!
Technically...
it is a crawl space.
Perfect for little people...
hockey, trikes...
and storage.

They'll be back soon...
for the next round.
Grandpa Santa is making plans!

  1. Too funny - the difference in birthday meals - it's just fate!
I love the hockey game and just hope that there weren't any bumped heads.

  2. Happy birthday to your beautiful daughter in law Lisa. My birthday falls after Christmas and we are all usually too full and tired to have a party.....I'd go for the weiner roast:) I smiled at the kids in your big bed....looks like they are all at our place....wishing our crawl space was another foot or two high. What fun! I heard that Santa was coming.

  6. Happy Birthday to Lisa! Looks like a fun family celebration.
The picture of the grands in bed is so cute.
Hockey in the basement would be a hit with my boys. We have no basement, but they used to play endless games of "mini stick" hockey in the bonus room.

  7. And we looked for the pickle in the tree....tried something new this year. Always fun to have kids come and go...a nd some even fall asleep prior to having supper.
Looks like more treats in store for them.

  9. A birthday close to Christmas can be a mixed blessing, but I see you've made it a wonderful one for your pretty daughter-in-law Lisa! Happy birthday to her!

The basement hockey photos brought back memories of when my older siblings and I would do the same in my parent's house while growing up. We also played a lot of ping pong games and jump rope down there. It was always fun!

  10. I like that you shared your family turkey dinner with us, and I like seeing that platter of turkey right there in front of me, especially since I am hungry right now. Your dinner activities look like so much fun. What special memories you are creating, whether turkey dinner or a wiener roast.

  12. Great family fun - our daughter also has a birthday during the week of Christmas. Our tradition is to take everyone out for Chinese food at her favourite Chilliwack restaurant.
Your family obviously loves the time spent together.

  14. Tell Lisa to slow down...these years are just rolling by so quickly. She is rather blessed with the turkey and all the trimmings and with a big, loving family. Great idea to send the lot to the basement!

  16. I'm just smiling here thinking this is one way to get a concussion playing hockey that the NHL never even has to think about. It is so great that the guys play hockey with the kids.
Happy birthday to Lisa. I wish I had read this one yesterday before meeting her!
