the other guest room...

There is always a space for night guests in the house! When our family was young, the bedrooms were all taken...but we outfitted our daughter's room with a large bed so that it could easily be converted into a guest room. She loved to give up her room for friends and family (right, Heidi?)...because it was her chance to move into our walk-in closet. How cozy to have a mini-room inside the master suite.

That was all long ago...and we have plenty of room for guests now. The master bedroom is on the main floor...with two guest rooms ready and waiting upstairs. But upstairs is a very long ways away...and the walk-in closet is so much cozier!

So when Ryder comes for a sleepover...we let him choose his bed...and he always chooses to sleep right next to us...in that other wee guest room. And he chooses the old blankee that was Uncle Kris's back in the 80's...and a teddy bear pillow.

At Grammy's house...

...we let them choose what they want.

It's sure fun being a Grammy!

Have a great weekend...

  2. Who would have ever thought that someday you being a grandma in your part of the world, and me being a grandma in this section of the country, could share our grammy joys with each other. The smile on Ryder's face is priceless. Oh, the memories that are being created.

  3. Oh, by the way, we have two cribs and a toddler bed in our bedroom right now. We often regretted designing such a big bedroom for the two of us, but now we understand why that happened...so we had room on our first floor for the three babies to sleep. I understood why they would choose to sleep close to you.

  5. Too, too sweet! I can see that I might want to have a go at my walk-in closet just in case a little guy wants to sleep in Nana's and Bedstefar's room when he comes in May. What memories you're making, Judy!

  7. A trip to the bakery with grandmother or grandfather is a frequent delight around here. Sometimes I just go to the amazing bakery near work just to watch the fun of little ones chosing their treats.

And JALSFJ comment made me smile as our bedroom is too large for my taste right now...maybe it has a purpose for being so in the future!

  9. I've been reading your blog for a couple weeks now ( I love it) and have never comment before but I had to once I saw the McD's comfort. I had the same sheet set as a child and I thought I was the only one. My mom now uses them in her garden. thanks for sharing the photo. Also love all the Mennonite recipes they remind me of growing up in MB.

  10. The smile on his face is precious. He looks completely content in his little closet bedroom. I can't say I blame him ~ it does look very cozy in there.

  11. Oh it is. Many a night I had a little sister in bed with me and little brother on the floor. Now they are all too big. I miss it so much. He is cute as a button.

  12. Oh what a cozy, wonderful spot all tucked into the closet. Oh my, Judy! That would make the cutest children's story.

Yes, we grandparents are notorious for being flexible.

  15. Hi
I just popped over from Pondside, she blogged about your evening spent knitting which sounded great.
Ryder looked like he was having a grand time, very Harry Potter.
I hope that Pondi didn't have to sleep in there though!

  18. Judy we have the same set up. I have a hard time putting the kids upstairs. They really haven't slept over without mom and dad with them yet. I think the master room closet is a brilliant idea!
