a holiday give-away...

It's a holiday weekend here in Canada.

Victoria Day.

On the farm, it's not much of a holiday...
since there is much to be done at this time of the year.

So I'm thinking I'll celebrate with a give-away.
 And the prize is...

...a Mennonite Girls Can Cook cookbook.

I think everyone I know already has one.

From these gals in Manitoba...
who thought it made great Sunday afternoon reading material...

to family in the Okanagan...

...and those close to home.

Even my musician nephew decided he needed to have a cookbook all his own...
...and my niece in Australia has a copy.

But here's the thing...
whether you have one or not...
doesn't matter to me.

Just leave a comment on this post sometime over the long weekend...
and tell me why you might possibly want another cookbook...
and your name goes in the draw.

I'll be announcing the winner on Tuesday morning.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend...
and if it's not much of a holiday for you...
have a wonderful weekend anyhow!

  1. Though I have one, I can gift one. That would be a wonderful way to spread Mennonite cooking around even more. It would help my budget as I can think of six or seven folks who need one. :D

This is your holiday weekend? Now I must check when ours is. I thought they coincided. (Just checked, one week apart. Victoria Day there on the 23rd and Memorial Day here on the 30th.) Have a happy holiday weekend!

For me it would be very special to have the book that has been written and planned by people whom I have come to 'know'.

  20. Even though I have purchased a few of these cookbooks I got to thinking that my Mennonite relatives in California might enjoy a copy, so just for fun I'll try your draw too.
For me the best part about this book is the stories of faith and God's abiding provisions throughout the lives of these gals.
    Great job!

  37. I would love a copy! I often search the MGCC wesbite and enjoy the great recipes. My husband grew up in church with your daughter's husband. Now that we are living in Alberta, it would be fun to have a newsworthy item from home (BC) and enjoy trying recipes from your book! Now that both of my Oma's have passed away, I would love to have a cookbook that is reminiscent of the types of foods that they used to make.

  44. I would love a copy! I am so interested in the differences in recipes from different regions. I grew up in KS, lived in TX for a while, my mom grew up near Amish farms in PA, my step-dad's family are all German.... so many great recipes from all over. I would love to have something from Canada to compare and try!

  45. I was born in a Mennonite family in Canada, and am now living in USA. I stopped at a store in early May for the cookbook, planning to use birthday gift money from my DMIL. It was not yet in stock. I've been enjoying your blog since I found it through Justalittlesomething. I enjoy cookbooks and find them inspiring. A cookbook by Canadian Mennonites would be a wonderful addition to my collection.

  52. I don't have one yet!! I would love one!! My very Mennonite grandma owned a bakery called Grandma's Baking in southern AB and made her own cookbook. Problem is, all her recipes are so huge that by the time I try to split things up, it's not quite the same! So I am always coming back to your site to find the many of the same favorites, but in a smaller quantities...would love a hard copy of the book! Wonderful work ladies!

I am just doing our family tree on ancestry.com and traced Robs fathers side who was German back to Prussia. I think I am hooked.
I think traditions are important for family worth and values. I would love to win this to see and experience some of Kathryn's heritage. It seems that baking is a tradition in your family because she is very gifted and skilled in baking. I think these traditions need to keep getting past on as the chance is they will die out and that would be very sad indeed.
Greetings and love from downunder. xxx Sharon <><

It's amazing how many people i'll be taking to that have no Mennonite connection at all...then suddenly they mention that they follow the MGCC site! I've been plugging the book!

  61. Hi Judy,
I would love to have this cookbook for a number of reasons: Firstly because although I do have a Mennonite background through my Dad. . . .my Mom did not. . . so I did not grow up with the traditional Mennonite foods. As a child we would come down to the coast to visit Grandma and Grandpa and I would get a taste of these wonderful dishes and since I married a Mennonite I have had the privilege of eating my MIL's delicious cooking as well. I would like to learn to make these dishes and be able to pass this on to my daughter and someday my grand-girlie!
Thank you so much for the opportunity to enter the contest.
    Have a GREAT weekend!

  78. Hi Judy - Please enter my name in the draw. I'd love to win one of your wonderful cookbooks. Good luck with your spring work - it's the same for us here. I'm making good meals and trying to get the freezer stocked up in preparation for my time away from home. The farmer is seeding barley the old fashioned way - by "pailing" the seed and fertilizer into the seed drill. He will be in soon for supper so I'd better get back to the kitchen.

Three of us on the East Coast just received ours and we are thrilled!!! What a masterpiece! And for what a great cause! Now, if only I find myself cooking as good as those of you who created the book. What a generous giveaway from you!
