the sunshine coast ~ gibsons

Gibsons...so near and yet so far!

A short ferry ride from the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal (just north of Vancouver)...
preferably on a beautiful warm September day...

...will get you to historic Gibsons Landing in no time at all.

It's all about boats over there...
and strolling the seawalk.

Our first stop was Molly's Reach...
the site of the Beachcombers TV series which ran for several decades.

We shared fish and chips, of course.
And we sat at Bruno Gerussi's table with a view.

And when the feast was over...
we walked along the pier and took note of how the locals live.

It seems they prefer to eat, play and sleep on the water!
Some even have amazing gardens on their houseboats.

And if you happen to live on one of the nearby islands and need your van for tonight...
you take it over on a barge.

They say it's a simple life...
but having vehicles can get a little complicated.

We strolled Molly's Lane...
and saw Relic's boat...
and passed through the Waterfront Park before bidding farewell to Gibson's.

Not far from Gibsons...
we stopped at Robert's Creek...
where a cruise ship passed through Georgia Strait.

And we left an inukshuk behind, of course.

And so ended our first day of travels on the Sunshine Coast.

Next stop...Smuggler's Cove.

  8. Ah...the Sunshine Coast - one of my favorite places. Powell River looks like it would be a fabulous place to live - if not for the ferries LOL!

  9. Thanks for the tour of Gibson's. All the islands and coastal towns of BC are on my list of places I'd love to visit. The houseboats have certainly all got character as their occupants must have as well. Sunshine always - glad you had such a sunny day!

  13. This area reminds me of California..we saw so many houseboat communities in the bays along the coast.
There is a small houseboat commuity near where I live. I iamgine it is less expensive to pay dock fees than rent!
