getting our raspberry fix...

One must make hay while the sun shines...
and jam while the berries are ripe!

And so we made raspberry jam yesterday...
...the grands and I.

They rather like the 'stir-to-own'  jam program we started here a few years ago.
They each leave with their own stash of freezer jam...

...and they are sure to lick the bowls before they are on their way!

And since we are planning on leaving the raspberry vines to fend for themselves when we go on vacation...
we are trying to fit in all our favorite raspberry treats these days.

...raspberry cream pie (recipe coming to Mennonite Girls Can Cook blog soon)...

raspberry scones ....and raspberry muffins.

Can you tell that I worked at a B.C. Raspberry Grower's booth at the Pacific National Exhibition once upon a time?  It was a good match...since I really do like raspberries!  Oh...and we wore T-shirts that said...
'Give 'em the old raspberry for dessert'.

We'll be all razzled out by the time we hit the road...
and ready to switch to blackberries when we return home.

  1. I'm headed right up there for any leftovers hanging around!! :0)
    Everything looks fabulous Judy!

  2. What great pictures of the good old raspberry. I felt like I was looking at a menu .. and for this time of the morning, that scone was what I need.
    Everything looks ever so yummy.

  3. Those pictures almost make me want to go out and pick some raspberries, but alas, none in our 8 foot wide backyard. Have to go shopping. They all look absolutely yummy!

  4. Those pies..........the scones.........not fair to make us drool over the keyboard early in the morning!
Those little jam makers are sweet!

  5. That looks so delicious! It brings me back to my childhood where we had raspberry bushes growing in our backyard. One of the things we looked forward to was picking raspberries when they were ripe. Of course, a lot of them got eaten before we ever made it back to the house. :0)

  6. Oh, Judy, you're killing me! Those photos of raspberry delights are wonderful. You're a smart grandmother to include the grands on these kinds of tasks. They are fun for them and you're passing along the torch.

  7. Mmmmm. Looking at these scones and pies first thing after breakfast makes me want to go back into the kitchen and bake! I do love raspberries!

  8. Your raspberry dessert pictures are fabulous! What a great idea to make jam with the grandchildren. I grew up on a raspberry farm and my dad was named "Grower of the Year" by the Abbotsford Growers Co-op one year. I have a picture (slide) of my 4 siblings all wearing their "Give 'em the old raspberry for dessert" T-shirts. Brings back lots of good memories!

  9. Such tempting desserts! Beautiful pictures! I love raspberries in desserts, but not so much plain.

The other day I ate one and it reminded me of berry picking days when we were forced into the fields to earn our spending money.

  10. Lucky, lucky you! I adore raspberries, especially freshly picked and warm from the sun.

As long as you are working on using them up: have the girls over and give this beauty treatment a try:

    Glowing Facial Mask Recipe

Combine 2 cups of fresh raspberries and 1 cup of plain yogurt, Blend until smooth. Apply the mixture to your face and let is sit for 15 minutes. Rinse with tepid water.

As you know, I work for a skin care school, and there is good skin care science behind this mix.

Another good recipe is found here:

Hey, is this fun? Cooking up stuff that won't mean extra calories when it comes time to enjoy.

  11. Oh my, I think I may need to have my computer serviced. It seems I can't quit drooling over the keyboard. Your photos are so beautiful and one just knows each and every one of them are a treat for the tastebuds.
How sweet that the grands are learning all of your secrets to delicious raspberry preparations.

  12. I think I have tried all those recipes and guess what I will be doing next week? You got it! Making those ice-cream freezer pies. They are a perfect dessert any time in summer.
Yes, you really made hay as they say.

  13. Everything looks so delicious! I have been on a strict diet lately and feeling the loss of desserts. I've been eating plenty of berries "as is," and thankful for their natural sweetness, but a little cream and sugar would be so nice...sigh.

  14. YUMMY!! All the desserts look so good! I think I will have to get my hands on some raspberry's this weekend and make something yummy! Have a great time on your vacation!
