a bird for all seasons...

Some like to swim....

...and stay for the winter.

The great blue heron is a common sight in our area...
and in our neighbourhood...
and even on our fences...
year round.

Though we would like to see the starlings fly south (or north...or east) for the winter...
and every other season as well...
they too like to hang around  all year long!

And then there is Tom....

...who is our 'bird of the day'.

We are having Thanksgiving dinner here today.
Can you smell the turkey?

The harvest is done for the year...
and so having Thanksgiving dinner tonight seems appropriate!

Have a wonderful day....

  1. I can't smell him yet!.. .it might be a mite early. Although. ..I have gotten up at 4 in the morning to put the bird in when we are eating a noon meal.
I have noticed many less little birds here .. the singing in the morning has ended. It's funny how that happens over night and yet I only notice it days later.

Happy Thanksgiving to your family tonight!

  2. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration this evening. You are one of the most grateful people I know!

Also one of the wittiest. I can see why you wish the starlings to go north or south, but east?!

  7. The blue heron is magnificent. Send more of them our way...we have enough Canada geese for awhile.

Thankful to have you as a friend Judy!

  11. I love your birds! Our backyard is a registered wildlife habitat and we have lots of feathered visitors! We have 3 ponds (garden kind with pond liners from Home Depot) and lots of bird feeders, 2 pecan trees and bushes with berries all meant to attract and keep birds coming to see us! We do NOT have the large sizes YOU get with the heron and turkey!

  12. Happy Thanksgiving to you and the family! It seems wonderful to have it so closely associated with the harvest, but it seems awfully tiring to do the big feast when you've just finished the work in the field.
The picture of the heron is especially good.
Your blog has shown through the year all the blessings you have to be grateful for. That is wonderful.

  13. Wonderful thoughts being sent for the Thanksgiving with your family.

I love the blue heron perched as if he is awaiting the meal himself...

    Nice write as always.
