all on a winter's day...

It's winter on the west coast...with the north-easterly wind howling through the valley and the temperatures dropping every day. But the skies are blue...and the sun is shining...

...and so yesterday was the perfect day to head to the mountains for a drive. We drove...in the direction from where the wind was blowing...and as we climbed the temperatures fell. There was no opening of windows for photo op's yesterday...and so I snapped a few through the window.

It was quite pretty in the hills...but not much snow to speak of. Though we had record precipitation in the valley over the past month...there was little rain or snow to the east of us. A two hour drive had us in Merritt...a sleepy little town in the winter...and the perfect rendezvous spot for an impromptu Christmas gathering with family from Kelowna. We had a birthday to celebrate...and a lot of catching up to do...and so it took all afternoon to do lunch. When I reserved the table...I never mentioned that we would be there for over three hours!

By the time we left for home, it was beginning to get dark...and the people of Merritt were starting to think about supper!

We came home bearing gifts...'the perfect gift' by the Canadian Tenors was in one of the packages. And so we un-packed it...and made the homeward trek to the accompaniment of this great Christmas album. It was good music to knit to as well...and if darkness had not interfered...the scarf would be done. Good company...good music...beautiful scenery on a winter's day...it was all good.

presence

In Your presence is fullness of joy;
at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Psalms 16:11

Gifts we give and receive may make us happy for a time...but joy comes only when we remain in a right relationship with God. In this advent season...let us celebrate His presence.

Sunday blessings...

good...and not so good...

If you have had an oatmeal raisin cookie at Starbucks these past few months...you will know that they are good. What is also good...is that the recipes are free for the taking.

And so I took...and tried...and this will be the oatmeal raisin recipe of choice around here in the future. They are soft and chewy...with golden and dark raisins as well as dried cranberries. If you would like the recipe...I posted it right here.

I am also enjoying my Christmas mugs...

...which I purchased at Starbucks last year after Christmas on the clearance table. I'd say they are a cup for all-seasons, since they don't look particularly Christmassy to me.

Not so good? The new instant coffee which Starbucks is promoting. My memories of instant coffee in the past were not that good...and so I thought maybe the new Via would actually taste like the real thing. Not so!

I have a friend coming for coffee today. I'll serve her the real thing...in my Christmas mugs...and we'll have a cookie or two. That's good!

Have a good weekend...
