We are spending a few days at our favorite oasis in the desert...

before continuing the final leg of the journey to the finish line.

How nice to meet up with friends here as well!

We had dinner together last night...

Kathy, Anneliese and I...

and our hubbies.

How quickly the hours slipped by!

Today we will float down the lazy river...

read a book or two...

and enjoy the sunshine.

The expected high for today is 30 degrees Celsius...

and I can handle that.

a postcard from arizona...

We have yet to visit a national park that we were disappointed in.

Just off Highway 40 and along the old route 66...

in the northeast corner of Arizona lies Petrified Forest National Park.

It's a gem!

The terrain is amazing...

from prairies to painted cliffs to piles of  volcanic rock.

And wandering about in a 'forest' of petrified logs was quite an experience.

If you ever plan a visit to the amazing Grand Canyon...

why not travel a little further east and visit the petrified forest as well? 

We are in the Phoenix area now...

and soon on our way to California.

a postcard from new mexico...

We are driving through the 'land of enchantment'...

as New Mexico calls itself ...

along Historic Route 66.

We explored Santa Fe...

which has the oldest public building in North America...

as well as the oldest church.

And we ate lunch at Casa Chimayo Restaurant in the old part of town...

after a local recommended it.

So good!

Who knew there was a Las Vegas in New Mexico?

We spent the night there.

My driver is still smiling...

though it looks like he has exchanged his RV for a '57 Chev.

Today we are following route 66 into Arizona.
