eating out...

We have an invitation to the home of friends for dinner this evening.
I'm looking forward to it!

I'm feeling rather spoiled this week.
Last Sunday night we sat at this lovely table... the guests of some friends,
with whom we have enjoyed many wonderful meals throughout the years.

There's something special about being invited into a home...
gathering around the table...
and enjoying someone else's fabulous cooking!
Conversation flows freely...
laughter comes easily.

I was thinking recently that it doesn't happen as often as it used to.
I'm re-thinking that right now!

Last Saturday night we were invited out for a game of Rook...
which turned out to include a buffet of appetizers and a delicious dessert.

Sunday night it was the dinner invitation that I mentioned above.

Tonight is Friday...and we are invited out for dinner.
we have an invitation to the home of other friends for dinner.
And Sunday we have a lunch invitation...after church.
Sunday night...we are invited to our kids' for dinner.

We are free the following case you were wondering!

Hospitality sitting with gladness.
~Henry Wadworth Longfellow

I'm not sure what Longfellow had in mind with his quote...
but I will gladly sit with friends and enjoy their hospitality!

Have a wonderful weekend...

  1. Wow! You certainly have some thoughtful friends. I imagine you are a gracious guest and a blessing to those who invite you....that's why your calendar is so booked! Enjoy!

  2. Yes, you and Elmer really get around! And I know that you are very good with hospitality yourselves. Just enjoy and enjoy some more!

  3. It must be that cycle where everyone is getting around to have you back. I love that part of the cycle. Enjoy.
OH. .and we got called to come to neighbors for supper tonight. Perhaps they have heard that we are all finished cooking for the book. Their concern is lovely.

  4. Whoohoo! You have hit the jackpot this fall. Wonderful. Love that quote because I always do sit with gladness when I'm around someones table :0)

  5. Beautiful table setting! I love that by posting photos we can exchange ideas!

  6. You'd better fire up your oven or your cooking tools will revolt! I was trying to figure out how long it might have been since you last to be on the receiving end of an invitation, isn't it?

  7. How wonderful! sometimes it seems like people aren't inviting others to their homes for dinner as much as we used to do. Maybe we are too busy, or maybe the standards of housekeeping and cookery have gotten so high that we're scared to have folks over. But I love to go and I am trying to have people in more.
Lucky you!! "The heart that gives, gathers"

  8. What goes round, comes round - your hospitality is being reciprocated. Isn't it fun to be with good friends and good food?

  9. What a compliment to you. Hospitality is so important and such a privilege. I am so happy for you and wish you many times of being able to serve the same friends one of your amazing meals. It is one of life's greatest blessings. Enjoy!

  10. Your cup runneth over, Judy! Enjoy being a guest at your friend's and family's table and have a wonderful weekend!

  11. Grin. Well, you know MY door is always open! Just a bit of a 'hike' here though!

  12. You deserve it my many meals that you make for your family and hired hardly get a brake from the kitchen...I agree..I love invites out and now I get to enjoy it for awhile. Looks like my kitchen is closed.
