who has seen the wind?

Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you:

But when the leaves hang trembling,
The wind is passing through.

Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I:
But when the trees bow down their heads,
The wind is passing by.
by Christina Rossetti 1830 ~ 1894

I thought of that poem this week...
as the winds blew through the valley.
It is one I remember from those long ago school days.

The rain arrived last weekend...
and within a few days the parched fields and brown lawns...
were green once again.

A few storms rolled through...
bringing winds and rain...
and reminding us to be prepared for power outages.

And between the storms...
we had some lovely sunny breaks.
Long enough to play tennis...
and spend a little time getting the yard ready for winter.
The patio furniture has all been packed away.
The planters are looking rather bare...
but the roses are still putting on a show.

It is autumn...
but winter is coming!

Have a wonderful weekend...

  1. Perhaps those winds have finally reached us after several days for we're having a nice big blow here coming any minute now. How nicely you caught the trees bowing.

  2. The wind always reminds me of the Holy Spirit. I love going for a walk and feeling a breeze float around me.....I truly feel like I am 'walking in the Spirit.' I love seeing the seasons through your blog. Texas doesn't have such wonderful distinctions between ours.

  3. Love that poem. You really captured the wind whipping through that second tree! We had a very interesting landing on the plane in that wind on Monday night!

  4. That's a poem I remember from school, too. And most apt these past few days. It's lovely to see everything green again. You are ahead of me on garden cleanup - perhaps this weekend, in between the rain showers.

  7. I love this poem! We also had wind and rain today. I believe the same storm traveled east. I'll keep autumn a little longer if I can ..it's my favorite time of the year!

  8. Lovely poem! I like to watch the wind, but if I have to be out in it, I prefer a breeze! :-)

  10. Even with the wind blowing and summer gone your place still is most beautiful! The grass is so green! I like the bird house hung on the tree trunk. I look forward to seeing your winter pictures too.

  11. We've already had two days of snow last weekend and we're expecting snow today. It seems too early but it's inevitable. I looked back and was so glad I did. congratulations on your spring "Celebrations" cookbook launch! I need to check that blog more often!

  12. Judy is this your garden in the three shots at top? How beautiful. I can scarcely believe we live in the same country. We have snow this morning. :(

    1. The photos were all taken on our yard a few days ago. There is fresh snow on Mt. Cheam this morning...our view to the east.

      Enjoy the snow, Sharon!
