celebrate...use your best china!

It's been almost a year since my uncle and aunt sold the home they had lived in for decades and moved to an apartment.   While my sister was out from Texas...we went to visit them in their new home.  Though we had not planned to come for lunch...Aunt Maggie insisted.  We arrived to find the table set beautifully in her finest china.  Wow...we were not expecting anything quite so special!

We soon discovered that every meal is special over there!  They always eat off their best china.  When they moved...they only kept the fine china...and got rid of the rest.  Uncle Jake folds napkins for every meal.  The candles are lit.  They sit at their little table with a view and celebrate every day they have together.  I like that!

I will opt to use my best china more often...and remember that every day is a gift to be celebrated!  I wish Uncle Jake and Aunt Maggie many blessings in their new home.

As for me, I am in celebrations mode over here in Manitoba.  I'm sure you will be hearing all about it...next week.

Have a wonderful weekend!

  2. How lovely. They are very wise. It's too easy to 'save' the best china for an occasion only.

  3. Oh Judy, this is such a sweet story and yes, we should use our good china more often!! I have the same pattern "Old Country Roses" and love to mix it up with my green depression glass for special occasions. "Every day is a Gift to be Celebrated" indeed! Enjoy Steinbach today. Can't wait to hear all about the book launch.

  4. Oh how delightful! What an adorable couple!

I must admit that I cringed when my sister said that she was going to do the very same thing with an antique set of fine china, but it's hers to do with as she wishes...hope that she's careful!

  11. I can't decide whether I like the photo of the beautiful table or the one of your aunt and uncle looking so happy by the quote about love and the big heart pillow better. The truth is I find them both so inspiring! There is a lesson here for all of us.
    Lovely post, Judy.

  12. Oh this is so special! It spoke of kindness, love, and caring. The picture of them smiling together did not need an explanation, and the fact that he folds the napkins and they use the best for each other...how precious!

Can't wait to hear about your latest adventure.

  17. What a very sweet idea! Do you believe I don't own "fine china"? When we were married it was not a priority, and I never purchased it through the years. I have a set of plain serving for twelve dishes I bought for $100 when we first married and that is what I have been using ever since. Maybe for my 40th anniversary next year I'll splurge?
