O Canada!
This land of wealth and peace
With rolling hills, and plains, and vales and seas;
We'll always stay in this domain
To help our nation grow,
And love thee, thou great Canada
Till rivers cease to flow.
O Canada
We're proud of thy great name
Thou land of freedom, liberty and fame.
God bless this nation evermore
And help that it may stay
A land of right for all mankind...
This may we ever pray!
Those are the first and last verses of a poem written in 1967 for Canada's Centennial.
I found the poem recently....
printed in an old high school year book...
with my name beneath it.
I had all but forgotten about it...
an English assignment back in the day.
It seemed fitting to post it on my blog today.
I can still say 'amen' to the prayer at the end.
Happy Canada Day!
Lovely! I think their National anthem is beautiful also! Have a gret day!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful Judy!
ReplyDeleteI count myself blessed to live in the country that gets to claim Canada as a friend and neighbor. Would that all countries would feel that across their borders are good friendly people who share a passion for freedom and Gid's grace.
ReplyDeleteHappy Canada Day to you and yours, Judy! We are so fortunate to live in this country, this province!
ReplyDeleteAmen from over here too! Happy Canada Day to you and yours - you live in one of the most beautiful areas of this vast and amazing country!
ReplyDeleteIf I didn't live HERE - I would certainly live THERE!!!! Happy Canada Day from a friend in the USA!
ReplyDeleteGreat words put to poetry, Judy! Another hidden talent come to light.
ReplyDeleteI arrived in Canada in the Fall of that year . . . 46 years ago! While you were busy with writing assignments, I didn't even know the language yet.
Talent appears in so many different forms on this blog. So many fun surprises from your past. Hope you have a wonderful day celebrating your gorgeous country!
ReplyDeleteThose are wonderful verses! What a magnificent mosaic, Judy! And what is it about Mounties that fascinates so? Did you ever read Mrs. Mike? It's one of my favorite books.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice way to honor Canada!
ReplyDeleteWe had a wonderful family BBQ for our Independence Day --a fun way to celebrate!
