birthdays, parades & brunch at the beach...

Not everyone can have a parade in honour of their birthday...but Ranen and Broni did!

Our town has a 'country living' parade every May...and we usually have other important things on the agenda, so we read all about it in the local paper. This year we went out in full force to check it out...since Emme and Spencer were riding on the 4H float.

Although it was a little damp, we picked up our Tim Horton's coffee, and settled in on the sidewalk to wait.

Here was Ryder's favorite entry...he seems rather fond of the police at this age!

Once his sister's float arrived...Ryder decided to join the parade, and daddy helped him onto the float. The parade was short and sweet...we had a taste of jazz, bagpipes, Christian rock...we saw monster trucks, aspiring dancers, and Shriners...and we were reminded many times over that we are celebrating our 150th birthday here in British Columbia this year! (Hmmm...it seems we had our centennial only a few years ago.)

We really know how to plan things...we postponed the birthday celebrations for one day and hit the jackpot. Sunshine...for a birthday brunch at the beach!

We had a family birthday party at the Lakeside Terrace at Harrison Lake. After a fabulous brunch, there's no need for birthday cake...but is it possible to have a birthday without it?

Backyardigan cupcakes seemed to be exactly what Ranen ordered...

...although I'm not so sure the brightly coloured icing was the best idea!

Brunch dragged on far too long for the kids...after all the sun was shining and there was a beach right across the road. Now it wasn't exactly summer weather...and I'm sure the water was rather chilly...but there were people going for a dip.

It wasn't long before the kids were all getting their feet wet. Heidi waded in to rescue Ranen's beach ball...and let's just say she got more than wet feet!

They had a wonderful time playing in the sand...

seeing the float planes land...

...and watching the kites sail overhead.

How nice to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon at one of my favorite spots...celebrating with my favorite people!

I'll be out on the town today...

  6. Judy~This post had such a luminous glow: happiness with family and community, and the wonder of the world at your doorstep.

A hundred years from now someone could read this post and see a pleasant slice of real life. Probably they would wonder how history could show such turmoil, and yet peace was seen on this day.

  8. Terrific day for you Judy. What fun, a May Day parade. I can imagine your adventure...that scenery is wonderful. Someday I will post my photos. But listen, you must answer me this....I can picture you this way and tell me if it is true....with a camera swung around your neck at all times. It must be so, for you are able to capture the most precious moments.
