a postcard from the California coast...

We are winding our way north along California's Pacific Coast Highway...and enjoying daytime temperatures in the high eighties...and the most spectacular scenery. It's not a trip that can be done in a hurry...there's so much to see and do! Tomorrow we will tour Hearst Castle, and then drive the most winding and dramatic section of this highway to Big Sur...and visit Carmel-by-the-Sea and Monterey. I found the appropriate tunes for the trip...the best of the Beach Boys seems the perfect music for this stretch of the road!

I'll tell you all about it...later.

  4. oh, I love that drive! Are you taking the coast road north of San Fran too? Can't wait to see and hear more about the trip. I've been to Hearst Castle a few times, but never have gone in (to do the tour). I swear next time we are there, I have to go in!

  8. My grandparents used to drive from San Diego to Lake Louise every fall because it was such a gorgeous drive.

The Hearst Castle is always a good idea! Such an amazing place. I still don't get why WRH's wife turned up her nose at it...except yeah, neighbors were a pretty stiff walk away. His mistress seemed pretty pleased with the place after that.

Golly. To have been a fly on the way during those days at the parties with all thse old timey celebrities!

I really, really hope you have the time and inclination to visit the Aquarium in Monterey. Best EVER! I could live watching seaweed sway and jellies balloon around. Absolutely soothing.

  12. Please take pictures so I can see a tiny bit of the vast beauty that you are beholding. I can't help but think how the Beach Boy's music would fit the occasion perfectly! I am sure it takes you back to a different time of life.

Take it all in and enjoy every minute.
