of shamrocks and such...

It's St. Patrick's Day.
I always knew it had to do with shamrocks and wearing green...
but since I have not a speck of Irish in me...
that was about all I knew.

Now I know why it is such a special day...
and who Saint Patrick actually was.

He was the one who brought Christianity to Ireland...
and used a three-leafed clover to teach the people about the Trinity.
He explained that God is three divine beings in one...
the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

What a great object lesson...
then and now.

 Irish or not...
it is a special day!

I'm wearing my green purse!
Have a wonderful day...

  3. Happy St. Patrick's Day, Judy! My Dad ancestors were from Ireland so this day has always been a special day for me. St. Patrick dedicated his life to help others and help a whole nation understand Christianity, so it is fitting he has a special day of recognition.

Today is New York City's 250th St. Patrick's Day parade!

  4. I am always amazed at how this part of the celebration is missed. It is a wonderful story that I have linked as well on MGCC.

  7. Looks like a good day to spend some green to pay the landscapers to cut back my trees so my yard will be more green! I liked your shamrock on the tea table...

  8. Thank you for sharing this, Judy. I believe most people don't know the true reason why we celebrate St. Patrick.

  10. Great analogy Judy...whether you are Irish or German or Canadian..
You brought our hearts together by welcoming the Trinity to our lives.

  11. Although I do have a wee speck of Irish in my ancestry, I must admit I didn't know the story behind St. Patrick. It makes the celebration that much more meaningful. So glad you shared it.

  14. That is so cool! I had no idea about St. Patrick and the shamrock symbolism! If you went downtown tonight in my town and watched all the people around the pubs that had an 'O' in front of the name (i.e. Carlos O'Bryans etc.), you would think that St. Patricks has something to do with drinking and kissing! LOL. I should have been out there telling them about the shamrock symbolism! Sheesh, I need to read your blog sooner in the day!
