Oak Alley Plantation is a National Historic Landmark situated along the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans...and is also called the 'Grande Dame of the Great River Road'.
Isn't that gorgeous?! Of Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte fame, too. I thought it looked familiar so Googled. Secretly, I was hoping for Gone With the Wind, but the former's not so bad.
My daughter and I toured Oak Alley about 5 years ago, along with two other plantations. It was so enjoyable! I hope you were able to have lunch at one of them.. Louisiana cooking is so delicious!
I have a sudden urge to say "Y'all" whilst wearing a hoop skirt. Hey, while y'all are down south, have you watched "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" ?
Love the beauty of this place! Can you believe I live in Louisiana and have not visited Oak Alley? Unbelievable, I know! Hope you enjoyed your visit in our state.
Your earlier post and pics of the eagles in your backyard are amazing! Getting to snap those pics would be a dream come true for me!
Vee- Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte was filmed at Houmas House Plantation just upriver from Oak Alley. In fact, they have a room called the Bette Davis room and it's where she slept while filming the movie.
Wow - that's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOh so lovely! Quintessential southern charm! Love it.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful spot - we visited that plantation many years ago - the quintessential plantation!
