Way back...last winter...while Maelyn was sleeping soundly in her carrier ...Heidi and I browsed shoppes...and found the sweetest little dress pattern. It was a bubble dress...rather a vintage style...which would be perfect come summertime. Summer was a long ways off...and pattern and fabric were soon forgotten in my sewing room cupboards.
As I made plans for the next few weeks...everything that needed doing before company arrived...and before we set off to explore in our RV...that little cherub dress came to mind.
Sewing a retro dress...with vintage-look fabric...on a retro machine...seemed somehow appropriate. If you are at all interested in the pattern...or any of the others by oliverands...they can be ordered on-line (my next project will be the birthday party dress). I also came across a blog with step-by-step instructions and hints on sewing the Oliver + S dress...as bubbly and fun as can be!
Heidi stopped by yesterday...to have a raspberry feast...
...and Maelyn stopped by for a dress fitting.
She laughed...and clapped...and played pat-a-cake with her feet...and said I should sew on the buttons so she could take the dress home. Done.
Since birthday boys were busy last night (is playing ball a good excuse?)...we will celebrate birthdays this evening.

I expected to see cake today. ..but I was most happy to find baby Maelyn instead. Oh what a darling dress Judy .. .I'm getting the sewing but too. .and I had just mentioned that to Terry this morning. . .I need to sew up some little sundresses for grandgirlie.

I'd rather be sewing... That dress is very cute on the quickly-growing little Maelyn! And did the "dad and uncle" win the ball game? or were they just watching? Somehow it seems that winning would be a better birthday celebration!

While in Kansas last month I came across a little girls dress pattern from a lady who sewed my sister and I each the cutest bag for summer fun wear. If I had a blog I would post it too. Nothing more fun than making the grands something. No matter what it is they love it. I have several birthdays coming up in July and one granddaughter said to me, "Mamaw I better not get a bought birthday card, I want a painted one by you." That is worth all the money in the world. I just could not stop looking at these adorable pictures!! Is there anything you can't do??? I had no idea you knew how to sew...how special!! My mother made all of our dresses when we were growing up. Yesterday, I had purchased some red and white vintage cherry fabric for my daughter's kitchen curtains. She said, "mom, I need to learn to sew." When I looked at this dress you created, I got excited about the prospect. You did a great job, and she looks as cute as a button!
