all on a winter's day...

It's winter on the west coast...with the north-easterly wind howling through the valley and the temperatures dropping every day. But the skies are blue...and the sun is shining...

...and so yesterday was the perfect day to head to the mountains for a drive. We drove...in the direction from where the wind was blowing...and as we climbed the temperatures fell. There was no opening of windows for photo op's yesterday...and so I snapped a few through the window.

It was quite pretty in the hills...but not much snow to speak of. Though we had record precipitation in the valley over the past month...there was little rain or snow to the east of us. A two hour drive had us in Merritt...a sleepy little town in the winter...and the perfect rendezvous spot for an impromptu Christmas gathering with family from Kelowna. We had a birthday to celebrate...and a lot of catching up to do...and so it took all afternoon to do lunch. When I reserved the table...I never mentioned that we would be there for over three hours!

By the time we left for home, it was beginning to get dark...and the people of Merritt were starting to think about supper!

We came home bearing gifts...'the perfect gift' by the Canadian Tenors was in one of the packages. And so we un-packed it...and made the homeward trek to the accompaniment of this great Christmas album. It was good music to knit to as well...and if darkness had not interfered...the scarf would be done. Good company...good music...beautiful scenery on a winter's day...it was all good.

  1. Looks like a nice trek. Wowie I just looked at my outdoor thermometer and it says 18 degrees. This is a great day for baking! Glad you could get together with family. My sister has a SIL that lives in Kelowna...

  3. The pictures of the scenery made me shiver - that's real winter country up there! Your trip home sounded very cosy - great music, a little knitting and chatting with your hubby - doesn't get much better than that, does it?

  4. Sounds like a perfect Sunday afternoon. Did you know that the mountain on your first photo is called Yak Peak? I know that only because I had a photo of it and was told the name of the mountain. Evidently all the mountains in that area have animal names.

The weather was perfect, cold and dry and I'm sure you had your latte's close by.

  7. This sounds like a lovely day Judy! I have heard the Canadian tenors...they have wonderful voices! Your scarf is very pretty and I'm sure you finished it today.

I am in cold and snowy Colorado this week in order to celebrate our grandson's birthday. He is such a good boy and we are having so much fun playing with him. :-)

  9. What a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon. There's something to look forward to both ways - seeing those you love, and then the return home.

We made a quick trip on the ferry to Abbotsford yesterday and the mountains were stunning. Clearly etched against a cloudless blue sky with no haze at all. We spent the night in Chilliwack and this morning Mount Cheam was spectacular! I don't mind the cold with beauty like this.

  10. Was it your birthday that was celebrated? Is that why you came home with the CD? I think this day would have been so much fun. Mountains, driving, snow, friends, eating together, and music on the way home...what could be better! Your pictures are beautiful
