tulip mania...

Just before the sun set last night, we took a short drive through the countryside to a flower farm out in Rosedale. For the most part, the farm specializes in calla lilies, which are grown in the greenhouse. But this week they are specializing in tulips...

...with all proceeds going to the B.C. Cancer Foundation and the Chilliwack Hospice Society. The fundraiser is the project of a father and his two children who lost their wife and mother last May to cancer. We picked a nice bouquet...which may be brightening up a hospital room soon...and we enjoyed our tiptoe through the tulips.

Next week I may be taking a drive a little further east...where the tulips fields should be in full bloom.

Tulips of the Valley is a 35-acre tulip farm...open to the public for two-weeks for self-guided tours. (The photo is from my visit last season.)

And if I have not yet had my fill of tulips...I could always drive south across the border and check out the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. Enjoy the season...and it's blooms!

Have a wonderful weekend...

  1. Wow, what beautiful color. Reminded me of the fields of tulips in Holland, MI, during the tulip festival there. Nothing like it. I used to grow lots of them (tho daffodils are my favorite)and always wished they lasted longer. I envy you access to places that enable you to enjoy them. Enjoy for me, too. :-)

  4. I remember your showing us fields of tulips before. I love, love seeing them again. Hope that you do make the journey because seeing all those blooming in person must do something wonderful for the soul. Keeping your hospital hostage in prayer daily!

  8. What beauty! How wonderful to have all of those flowers practically in your backyard.

They last so fleetingly but what joy they bring!

  9. Judy, It seems to me that you have many beautiful fields of flowers in your part of the world. We do not. I love seeing your pictures, and knowing the story behind those tulip fields. How special to remember a wife and mother in that fashion. Any hospital room will be brighter with a bouquet of tulips.

  10. What a feast for the eye - and what an opportunity for the photographer! I'd hoped to get a trip over after hearing about those fields, but now I think we'll have to wait for next years as things look fairly far along.
