some things in life are still free...

Most things seem to come attached with a price tag in this day and age...but there are still some great events that are free. We had the privilege of checking out a wonderful community concert on the weekend...no tickets required.

Over the summer months, our local Business Improvement Association has sponsored a Friday night concert in Central Community Park and a night market at the same location. Friday night was the grand finale for this summer...and so we took our lawn chairs and went to enjoy some great bands on a warm summer evening. We were in good company...there were over 3000 others who decided to spend their Friday night in the very same way.

We weren't there long...before some friends happened along...and set up their chairs next to ours. These are friends who live in our neighbourhood...but who we don't get a chance to catch up with all that often. So catch up we did...while the bands played on! Now I'm not talking about subdued background music...but rather loud and robust country and rock. So our talking must have been more like shouting...because we all left with rather hoarse throats when the night was over.

While we chatted together...we reminisced with our friends about our climb up Mt. Cheam together many years ago. We guessed it must have been more than 10 years ago...but our friend knew it had been August 28, 1998. How coincidental was that? Eleven years to the day after our mountaintop adventure...we met by accident at our local 'party in the park'.

We had a good evening...good music, good company, good weather...and it was all free (even the hoarse throat). Some of the best things in life are free!

Have a terrific Tuesday...

  3. Sharing memories with one another is so valuable and especially with life long friends. I know who those wonderful people were. I think we're related.

  4. I often think of that when I'm walking along the beach, listening to the waves, picking up shells and breathing the salt air - it's all free!

I've also enjoyed some free concerts in town this summer - lots of step-dancing and fiddle music. Good fun!

    Glad you enjoyed your evening.

  5. Beautiful weather, good friends to talk to, and an outdoor concert...what could be more fun! You must have great community involvement to have 3000 show up for a concert. So much fun to find a freebie in today's world.

  12. Hi Judy,

Thanks for stopping by my blog. As you can probably tell, I love traveling just like you and love photography as well. Our family has been to BC several times and are constantly amazed at it's beauty. I am so jealous of the gorgeous Hydrangeas which are my favorite flower and can't really grow in our Arizona desert. I'll be posting more about our Colorado trip and Steamboat Springs in the coming days, so stop by again. I'll look forward to "seeing" you.

  13. It is a great freebie! One that we have enjoyed a few times. One of my favorite things is bumping into people and quick 'catch-ups'.

  14. It sounds like a delightful evening, Judy! How fun to be able to share the evening with good friends.

I am proud to say I climbed a mountain this vacation. It was one of the lower mountains in the Grand Teton range, but it was a demanding trail for this sea level person :-)
