fresh local strawberries...

I have nothing against California...and like to travel there on a regular basis...but when it comes to eating strawberries, ours taste so much better than the ones that arrive here from the golden state. We have been coaxing along our wee bed of strawberry plants...and covering them with mesh to deter the birds...and now we are ready for harvest. That means...we kneel down next to the raised bed...and have a feast whenever we get the urge. We have a few fresh berries to add to our breakfast fruit bowl...and Heidi pops by for an afternoon snack.

And if you like fresh strawberry pie...you heard it right here that ABC Country Restaurant is serving it up as we speak...with juicy local berries. I should know...since I've been there twice this week...and had strawberry pie both times.

In actuality...I've only had one slice, since both times I shared with a friend. We discovered that it is the perfect ending for any meal...even breakfast! So find a friend...everything tastes better in good company...and go for a piece of pie.
Oh yes...and take note of the little prayer card that you will find on your table. My friend and I thought that was rather a nice touch...for the owners to pray a blessing on those who gather to eat at their tables.

And if you are looking to make some fresh strawberry pie in your own kitchen...

...buy local strawberries...and you will be glad you did!

Have a great weekend...

  1. I agree that we have the best strawberries here! Yesterday I bought some that were just picked in Rosedale and they were so delicious! So far we've had a salad with strawberries, chicken, etc (recipe on my blog), strawberry shortcake made by my 11 year old, and a strawberry shortcake & banana parfait for breakfast! mmm

  2. I could go a whole raspberry-picking season without eating a raspberry. But fresh strawberries - who can resist! I would love to be there to share some. Those big supermarket berries are for looks, but the fresh Fraser Valley berries ace the taste test!

  3. When I saw those slices my first thought was, "They are not cutting them as big as I remember . .. " Oh yes, sharing is good . . . for more reason than one.
I'm off on my walk and maybe I can enjoy some pie yet this weekend.

  7. My mouth waters just thinking of local berries. I may just go pick some up at the stand today .. since kneeling in the field won't be an option. . .Fraser Valley Berries are the absolute Best .. .I kind of feel sorry for the rest of the folks.

  8. I have never been into a restaurant and found a prayer. That fills my heart with hope. I know there are folks out there enforcing our Christian values and I say we all go for it. Blessings to you and family.

  12. I can just taste that pie! There's nothing like a berry eaten within miles of where it's grown. It will be a while before we have strawberries on the Island, and when they arrive I'll be at the stand to buy enough for jam and pie (strawberry rhubarb). Until then I'll have to have some of that ABC pie when I'm in Abbotsford.

  14. Local berries are without a doubt, the very best! Seeing your pictures makes me wish your restaurant was close by my house. The prayer card is a meaningful gestures from the owners of the restaurant. I am off to get some more strawberries from our farm neighbors.

  15. Ohh yes! local strawberries and strawberry pie... makes my mouth water!
I hope that your dad is doing better, Judy. And that his stay in the hospital will be short - or better still that he is already home. May God restore him to strength and health once again!

  16. Hmmmmm, local strawberries...not sure when they'll be ready here...gotta be soon, I think. John will be looking for a strawberry shortcake and that's all I'm good at making with strawberries, which are not my favorite berries, but close.

Wonderful fun to catch up with you this evening; although, I am not happy to learn that your dad is back in the hospital. (So is my mom.)

And I'm so glad that you mentioned that some emails just go missing. They do. They really do.

    Take care, hug those grands...
