our field trip...

There's nothing like an outing to the tulip fields of Skagit Valley to brighten a grey and dreary spring day...especially in the company of good friends. We had so much fun!

For twenty-seven years these tulip fields have been drawing visitors from far and wide. The vast acreages of tulips are grown and harvested by Washington Bulb Company/Roozengarde...one of the world's largest growers of tulips.

We set out in the morning...five Fraser Valley friends from Mennonite Girls Can Cook. We arrived in La Conner, Washington where we met up with Ellen...from the Seattle area...who is also a contributor to MGCC.

(l-r) Kathy, Ellen, Lovella, Marg, Judy, Anneliese

A little shopping...a little plenty of eating...and lots of chatting and laughing. Though it was the first time any of us had met Ellen...she was a friend and not a stranger. Seattle is not that far away...and I'm sure we will meet again one day soon!

After lunch...we made our way out to the countryside...

...and parked at Tulip Town. Not sure where to go? Just follow the traffic and look for a Dutch windmill...and you'll be at the right place.

Though there were plenty of puddles...the rain held off while we strolled the fields.

We snapped...they posed.

We ooooohed...and we aaaaaahed!

And as we left the field...we said 'amen' to the billboard we passed. To God be the glory!

It was a most enjoyable...and relaxing day...with not a care in the world. Thanks Lovella...for being both the tour organizer and chauffeur!

I'll be back another day...to continue the tour of the tulips!

  9. Rain, chilly weather...strong winds. What would stop us blogging friends from having a good time.
    When the next adventure?
I'm still feeling squished in the middle.
The right mixture of people with like minds makes a wonderful time no matter what we do.

  10. It's so good to be at this stage in our lives where we can take a day like this to be with girlfriends ... still so much to learn from each other. The laughing was good for my whole being.

  13. It's nice to see the differnet perspectives on your day together. What comes through loud and clear is that you loved being together and that you all enjoyed the beauty of the tulips. How fun to finally meet Ellen. One day we will all - even the prairie girls - get together in person.

  15. That billboard message was the perfect way to describe the outstanding beauty of these tulip fields. I never saw anything close to this. The bright colors all together are so amazing! I can't thank you enough for sharing this day with us. Really, the pictures are just breathtaking, and with Lovella as the tour guide, and so many fun people along...how could have it been anything other than a really fun, relaxing day!

  17. I was so close to making the trip myself last week when we were in Seattle. As it turned out we just had too much on our plate to make it up there. I just adore the Skagit Valley. Tulips, and gardens and shopping OH MY!

Glad you ladies had such a nice trip. Can't wait to see more pictures.
